Cheapest Team Chat and Video for a 10-Person Team

Our top pick for a 10-person team that needs chat and video is Google Workspace Business Starter, at $840 for 12 months on a one-year commitment by our arithmetic, because the seat includes both plus mail and storage. Slack Pro at $870 is the pick when chat is the product and headcount cannot be promised. Zoom Workplace Pro at $1,699.20 is the pick only when long or large meetings are the daily job. This guide prices the three alone and in combination, from the vendors' pricing pages as read on October 10, 2026. See how we picked before trusting the ranking.

How we picked

We did not run tests of our own; grades come from documentation, pricing pages and verified vendor help articles checked on October 10, 2026. The ranking follows four criteria.

The 12-month total at 10 seats comes first. We multiply the published annual or commitment per-seat rate by 10 and by 12. Monthly and Flexible rates are reported separately because the choice between them is a contract decision, not a price decision.

What the seat includes comes second. A $7 seat that covers chat, video, mail and storage is not the same purchase as a $7 seat that covers chat. We list the published limits for each function rather than the marketing names.

Contract terms come third. Whether you can drop seats mid-term, and what cancelling early costs, decides the real bill for any team whose headcount moves. The vendors differ sharply here and we weight it accordingly.

What the page does not publish comes fourth. A seat limit or an add-on price that is routed to a sales call is a number you will learn after you have chosen. We penalise silence. Our per-seat pricing guide explains why these four steps run in this order.

What a 10-person team needs, stated plainly

Before the products, the requirement. A 10-person team in this guide needs a place to message each other with searchable history, a way to hold internal calls and client meetings, and ideally a way to record the ones that matter. Most such teams also need business email, which turns out to decide the ranking.

We assume all 10 people need chat access. We do not assume all 10 host meetings, because most teams have two to five people who schedule calls and the rest who join them. That distinction matters most for Zoom, where attendees can be free.

We assume meetings under 100 participants, which is the floor on every paid tier here. Teams with larger events need the higher tiers covered in the individual reviews.

Best overall: Google Workspace Business Starter

One seat, four functions, $7.00 a month on a one-year commitment. For 10 people that is $840 for 12 months by our arithmetic, and the seat includes Gmail on your domain, Google Chat, Google Meet with 100 participants for up to 24 hours, 30 GB of pooled storage and Gemini in Gmail, per the pricing page checked October 10, 2026.

Specs that matter: $7.00 per seat on commitment or $8.40 on the Flexible plan; 14-day trial; Business plans capped at 300 users; Meet recording not included at this tier; Gemini in Docs, Sheets and Meet not included at this tier.

Pros: cheapest 12-month total of the three; includes mail and storage the others do not; Meet limits are printed on the page; new customers with 20 or fewer users see an intro rate of $3.50 for 12 months, which puts year one at $420.

Cons: the Annual plan must be paid in full if you cancel early and licences can only be reduced at renewal, per the admin knowledge base; recording and noise cancellation start at Standard, $14.00; the pricing page does not state support entitlements for Business tiers; Google Chat's tier details are thin compared with Slack's.

Why it sits at #1: it is the only seat here that answers chat, video and mail at once, and it is the cheapest. A team that does not need email gets a smaller advantage, but still pays less than Slack Pro for chat plus a 100-person meeting room.

Best for chat-first teams: Slack Pro

One seat, one function done thoroughly, $7.25 a month billed annually. For 10 people that is $870 for 12 months by our arithmetic. The seat includes unlimited message history, unlimited app integrations, group huddles, external messaging with up to 250 organisations, basic AI, SAML SSO, SCIM and native DLP, per the pricing page checked October 10, 2026.

Specs that matter: $7.25 annually or $8.75 monthly; free plan with 90-day history, 10 apps and 1:1 huddles; no seat minimum stated; fair billing credits members inactive for 28 days; 24/7 support starts at Business+, $15.

Pros: the most detailed chat tier documentation of the three; SAML SSO at the entry paid tier; fair billing means a shrinking team pays for active seats; a working free plan for pilots.

Cons: no mail, no storage quota, no published huddle participant cap or recording detail; costs $30 more a year than Workspace Starter for 10 seats while covering less; 24/7 support doubles the price.

Why it sits at #2: it costs slightly more than Workspace Starter and includes less, but its contract is the kindest to a team whose headcount moves. For a team that cannot commit, Slack Pro at $870 beats Workspace Flexible at $1,008. For a team that can, it does not.

Best for meeting-heavy teams: Zoom Workplace Pro

One seat built around the meeting, $14.16 a month billed annually. For 10 people that is $1,699.20 for 12 months by our arithmetic. The seat includes 30-hour meetings with 100 participants, 10 GB of cloud storage per user, unlimited AI meeting summaries, Team Chat, Zoom Mail and Calendar, a scheduler, unlimited clips and whiteboards, per the pricing page checked October 10, 2026.

Specs that matter: $14.16 annually or $16.99 monthly; free Basic plan with 40-minute, 100-participant meetings; Business at $18.33 reaches 300 participants; per-plan licence limits not published; live chat support above $10 a month, phone support above $200 a month.

Pros: the broadest bundle per seat, with recording storage and AI summaries at the entry paid tier; attendees do not need a licence, so a team can buy Pro for hosts only; 50% nonprofit discount stated on the page.

Cons: double the seat price of the other two; the page does not say how many licences Pro allows; Business Plus and all add-on prices are absent; mail is Zoom Mail rather than a hosted domain mailbox in the Gmail sense.

Why it sits at #3: at 10 full licences it is the most expensive option by roughly $830 a year, and the premium buys meeting length and recording that a team of 10 may not use daily. It climbs the ranking fast if only three people need to host, which the next section prices.

The combinations, priced

Few 10-person teams buy exactly one of these. Below are the realistic stacks, each an editorial calculation from the published annual or commitment rates as of October 10, 2026, for 10 people over 12 months, excluding tax and promotions.

The pattern is clear. If mail is needed, Workspace Starter or Standard anchors the cheapest stack. If long recorded meetings are needed for everyone, Workspace Standard at $1,680 is cheaper than any Zoom-for-all configuration. If only a few people host, three Zoom licences on top of Workspace Starter undercut Standard by roughly $330 while giving those hosts 30-hour meetings. The note on turning a pricing page into a bill shows the same mixed-licence logic on other tools.

Also compared (did not make the cut)

Two combinations were priced and set aside. Slack Business+ at $15 per seat, $1,800 for 10 people, was excluded as a chat-and-video pick because the extra $930 over Pro buys advanced AI and 24/7 support, not video capacity; the pricing page still publishes no huddle limits at that tier.

Zoom Business at $18.33, $2,199.60 for 10, was excluded because its gains over Pro, chiefly 300 participants and SSO, are outside a 10-person team's stated needs, and the page does not confirm that 10 licences fits inside Pro in the first place.

Microsoft Teams is the obvious missing name. We have not yet read its pricing page for this site, and we do not include products we have not documented. It will join this guide when its review is published.

How to choose between them

Who provides your email? If nobody yet, Workspace Starter is almost certainly the cheapest first purchase. If Microsoft does, Workspace duplicates it and Slack Pro is the cleaner addition. If Google already does, you already own Chat and Meet and the question is whether they are good enough.

How many people host meetings longer than 40 minutes? If the answer is two or three, buy that many Zoom Pro licences and leave everyone else free. If the answer is everyone, Workspace Standard is cheaper than Zoom Pro for ten.

Will headcount shrink this year? If it might, avoid the Workspace Annual plan, which bills every purchased licence until renewal. Slack's fair billing and Workspace Flexible both let you shrink, at $870 and $1,008 respectively for 10 seats.

Do you need recordings? None of the entry tiers here records meetings by the published feature lists. Workspace Standard at $14.00 and Zoom Pro at $14.16 are the two documented routes, and at 10 seats they are $20 apart over a year.

Are you a new Google customer with under 20 users? The intro rate of $3.50 on Starter or $8.40 on Standard for 12 months is the largest discount on any of these pages. It expires after a year, so price year two at list before deciding. Our guide to budgeting around unpredictable charges covers how to plan for a price that steps up.

What changed

October 10, 2026: first published. All three pricing pages read on this date. Zoom's page did not publish per-plan licence limits or a Business Plus tier; Google's pricing page did not show Flexible prices, which were taken from the admin knowledge base. Figures will be re-checked on the site's normal schedule and this section will record any change.

Bottom line

For most 10-person teams the cheapest chat-and-video answer is Google Workspace Business Starter at $840 a year, and the cheapest complete answer with recordings is Business Standard at $1,680. Slack Pro at $870 is the right pick when chat is the product or headcount cannot be promised.

Zoom Workplace earns its place as a three-licence add-on for the people who host, not as a seat for everyone. Run the arithmetic at your own headcount on the live pages; the method holds after the numbers move.

Recording, noise cancellation and Gemini across Docs and Meet start at Standard, $14.00. The Annual plan cannot be reduced before renewal; the Flexible plan at $8.40 can. How we chose

We did not run tests of our own; grades come from documentation, pricing pages and the vendors' help centres checked on October 10, 2026. Four criteria, in order of weight. First, the 12-month total for 10 seats at list price on annual or commitment billing, computed by the editors from the published per-seat rate. Second, what the seat includes at that price: chat, video, mail, storage, with the published limits. Third, contract terms: whether seats can be reduced mid-term and what early cancellation costs. Fourth, what the page leaves unpublished, because a missing number is a cost you discover later. Promotions are reported but do not move the ranking, because they expire.

Frequently asked

What is the cheapest team chat and video for 10 people?

Google Workspace Business Starter at $7.00 per seat on a one-year commitment, $840 for 12 months by our arithmetic from the pricing page checked October 10, 2026. It includes Chat, Meet with 100 participants, Gmail and 30 GB storage. Slack Pro is $870 for chat alone.

Is Slack or Zoom cheaper for a small team?

Slack Pro at $7.25 per seat annually is roughly half of Zoom Workplace Pro at $14.16, so $870 against $1,699.20 for 10 people over a year. Zoom becomes competitive when only two or three people need paid licences to host long meetings and the rest attend free on Basic.

Can a 10-person team use free plans only?

Slack Free gives 90-day history, 10 apps and 1:1 huddles; Zoom Basic gives 40-minute, 100-participant meetings. A team can run on both at $0, but the 90-day history and 40-minute cap are the two limits that push most working teams to pay within months. Google Workspace has no free business plan.

Do I need Zoom if I have Google Workspace?

Not for meetings under 100 people and 24 hours on Starter, or 150 with recording on Standard, per the published limits. Zoom adds 30-hour meetings, a scheduler, clips and 10 GB per-user storage. Three Zoom Pro licences for hosts cost $509.76 a year on top of Workspace.

How much does Google Workspace cost for 10 users with the intro offer?

The pricing page shows Business Starter at $3.50 per user for 12 months for new customers on the first 20 users, which is $420 for 10 people in year one by our arithmetic, then $840 at list. Business Standard's intro rate of $8.40 gives $1,008 in year one, then $1,680.

Which option lets me drop seats if the team shrinks?

Slack credits members inactive for 28 days under fair billing, and Workspace's Flexible plan at $8.40 lets you remove users any time. The Workspace Annual plan bills all purchased licences until renewal. Zoom's page does not describe mid-term reductions, so ask before committing.
